LAUGH---what a interesting concept in our world today. With all of the stress, the long to-do lists, the physical aches and pains of a very overloaded day, sometimes we forget to laugh. When Joe and I started dating, he made me laugh---thata was one of the things that was so much fun about our relationship---I thought he was funny and he thought I was funny. Then, I went through a very dark valley and laughter was nowhere in sight. Like all valleys, eventually we come up and in the last couple of months, I have seen the light and the dark has lifted. Recently, I have made it a priority to laugh. A couple of months ago, I began to read a book written by Suzanne Sommers on hormones and the changes that women go through. At the beginning of every chapter, there is a 2 line saying that is hilarious. Joe and I sat on the front porch one morning and I read these out loud. We belly-laughed for 2 hours. It was then that I realized how much I needed laughter!!!
Sometimes, we have to seek "after laughter!!" I have found some great jokes on www.cleanjokes.com. and other websites that offer clean jokes. I copy them, put them in a word document, and share them with anybody that will listen. It has been really fun, and lifts the stress of life, if only for a moment. I think we should share our laughter. I will be putting funny jokes on my page regularly and I would like you to share with me your laughing moments. You can send them by email at sherri@drelrod.org or you can go to our "Contact Us" page and at the bottom of the page, send me your jokes through the comment block.
Barbara Johnson is one of my favorite women to read. She is a speaker with the "Women of Faith" Retreats that have been going on for many years in large cities. I have been to several of these events, and besides receiving tremendous spiritual blessings, I have had great fun at their personalities and their desire to make women laugh. All of these ladies are so funny. Well, Barbara Johnson has written several books, and I will quote sayings straight from her from time to time. She has walked through some dark valleys and is very realistic about life. The Lord has given her an ability and a gift of sharing with women and being very vulnerable about her journey. I like to read her books because she is REAL!! She doesn't just say everything is rosy and those who struggle just need to get over it. She acknowledges the pains and heartaches, struggles and disappointments. Many times there is not a "pat" answer for what we are going through, but there is Someone to hold on to---The Lord who loves us and will never leave us. It is good, also, that the Lord gives us other people to walk with and struggle with. We need each other---we all need a support structure to be a central part of our existence. The Lord did not make us islands to be off by ourselves. But instead, He said "It is not good for man to be alone."
So, let's lean on each other and learn to LAUGH!!
Here's one for you---
Not wanting to miss the vital organ and become a vegetable and a burden to
someone, she called her doctor's office to inquire as to just exactly where the
heart would be. "On a woman," the doctor said, "your heart
would be just below your left breast."
Later that night, Mildred was admitted to the hospital with a gunshot wound to
her knee.![]()
